The last three days were spent in the Triglav National Park, Slovenia. These are called the Julian Alps, you will see more pictures of why they call them the Alps on the next post. We arrived early in the day and enjoyed a full day at Lake Bled. A pretty touristy place, very nice path around the whole lake, bikes and boats to rent, a castle to see and hikes to be walked.
Oh and an adorable chapel on an island in the middle of the lake.
We had bikes and rode around the lake this day, which was the best way to get around by far! We stopped during a little rain shower to feed a momma duck and her ducklings.
The castle is perched high on a hill above the lake. We hiked up to check out the view, but didn't want to pay to go inside. Our tour book said it wasn't quite worth the bucks, so we skipped it. Instead we found more shelter and waited out a massive thunder and lightning shower.
It poured for about thirty minutes in which we heard the loudest clap of thunder I have ever heard in my life! I literally ducked thinking I was going to get hit by something!
You can see the storm as it finally passed us in the picture below.
Swans are so graceful but not always so nice...but don't worry, Brian didn't get pecked or anything. And check out our towel swans in our room! We stayed above a pizzeria for three nights so you can guess what we had for dinner three nights in a row. Yup, pizza, and it was delicious.
We slept at a different place than Lake Bled. I wanted to get away from the big touristy areas so had decided to sleep near Lake Bohinj. It is about a thirty minute drive from Lake Bled and is really pleasant. You read the post Brian wrote about the tram, well the tram was about five minutes from our pizzeria and apartment.
Tons of fish! Beautiful clear water, just awesome.
And of course a picturesque church!
