Gorky Park and more

A relaxing day wandering the streets and parks of Moscow. This time around, Brian and I got to see a few new sights. First up, a church we have seen before, but this time a service was just finishing with the priests and all church members going to each side of the church on the outside. All of this while a massive bell was being rung on top of the church by two men.

Fallen Monument Park. A park of statues. All shapes and sizes. Serious people and fun people. Below is a picture of Boratino, the Russian version of Pinocchio. An old cartoon character from "back in the day", my husband tells me.

This park was full of old Soviet statues and communist style things along with cartoon characters, oriental, modern and other types of art.

The wall below is a wall representing and commemorating the repressed people during the communist era.
It is full of heads. Not real heads of course, don't get worried.

Coolest park ever! Gorky Park, freshly remodeled in 2011. Used to be full of amusement rides and junk food carts. But, with the remodel came a more eco-friendly park. The entrance fee was cancelled, amusement rides and food stalls were taken out and replaced with different sports complexes, yoga areas, dancing and an open theater. There is also volleyball courts, pleasant cafes throughout and FREE WiFi.
Below is at the entrance, a large water fountain with classical music playing.

Surrounding the fountain and in other random grassy areas of the park (which is 300 acres) are these massive bean bags. How awesome is that? Sadly we couldn't find one empty so I never got to sit on one. I kind of wanted to jump on one of these and wake these guys up. How rude to just take up the whole bag?!?!

Relaxation site number 2. There were some other awesome lounge chairs that Anita and I sat on for a few minutes to rest our feet. Here was our view, volleyball courts in the distance.

A beach? Almost, just no ocean.

And a lovely pond to float on.

A cool bridge that crossed one of the main rivers in Moscow from Gorky Park.

It was really a fabulous place. I think next time I need to plan for a whole day to just relax in the sun and read a book.
